By the beginning of World War II, he served in the Air Force of the Transcaucasian Military District in the 10th Fighter Aviation Regiment, in which in August 1941 he participated in the operation to bring Soviet troops into Iran. The medal, simply called “Condor” among the troops, was established in 1939 and was issued to participants in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 who fought against the Republicans. Among others, this award was received by the German military. In November 1936, Hitler sent the Luftwaffe Condor aviation unit to Spain to help Franco’s nationalists, who started a civil war against the communist government. Continue reading

Alexander Koldunov was born on September 20, 1923 in the village of Moshchinovo, Smolensk region. He graduated from high school in the city of Elektrougli, Moscow Region. He studied at the flying club in Reutov. Since 1941 in the Workers ‘and Peasants’ Red Army. During the Great Patriotic War in March 1943 he graduated from the Kachin Red Banner Military Aviation School of Myasnikov. Continue reading
