Hero of the Soviet Union, sergeant of the Red Army. During the occupation of the Smolensk region by Wehrmacht troops, he joined a partisan detachment. In the army since December 1944. Scout of the 756th Infantry Regiment of the 150th Infantry Division of the 3rd Shock Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. According to the official Soviet version, together with Lieutenant A.P. Berestomi, Junior Sergeant Meliton Kantaria, he hoisted the Banner of Victory on the roof of the Reichstag during the Battle of Berlin. Continue reading

Alexander Koldunov was born on September 20, 1923 in the village of Moshchinovo, Smolensk region. He graduated from high school in the city of Elektrougli, Moscow Region. He studied at the flying club in Reutov. Since 1941 in the Workers ‘and Peasants’ Red Army. During the Great Patriotic War in March 1943 he graduated from the Kachin Red Banner Military Aviation School of Myasnikov. Continue reading
Fighter pilot
In 1940 he entered the Chuguev Military Pilot School. After graduating from college, he was left in it for six months as an instructor. In December of the same year he was sent to the front. He started to fly on our old “Ishachka”, after on the modernized British fighter “Hurricane Mk 2”. In early 1942, he fought as part of the 728th Fighter Regiment on the Kalinin Front. During eight sorties, he scored three air victories and was appointed flight commander. Continue reading
