From the award list: 5.2.45 on the second run, during the attack of a tank column moving along the MELZAK-BRAUNSBERG road, Captain EFIMOV’s plane was shot down, which subsequently caught fire. Threatening death did not stop the revenge of Captain EFIMOV. With a sharp glide he knocked down the flames, Captain EFIMOV once again led the ILYUSHINS into battle, defiantly destroying the manpower and equipment of the pr-ka. As a result of this raid, 6 tanks, 2 field artillery guns, 2 armored personnel carriers, 4 vehicles and up to 40 manpower were destroyed.
TWICE Hero of the Soviet Union Marshal of Aviation Alexander Nikolaevich Efimov turned 85 years old. He was born on February 6, 1923 in the family of a railway worker in the village of Kantemirovka, Voronezh Region. From an early age, he became interested in aviation, loved to make aircraft models, and soon experienced the joy of flying in a glider.
